The Go-Rays from Doctor Who
William H. 'Bill' Mevin began his career in illustration as a trainee film animator in the late 1940s before becoming a topical cartoonist for the Sunday Chronicle. He then moved into comics, working for titles including Express Weekly and, most notably, TV Comic, for which he drew strips including Supercar, Space Patrol, World Cup Willie, Bugs Bunny, Droopy, Lenny the Lion and some of the early Doctor Who strips featuring the first Doctor. In the 1970s and 1980s he worked for titles including Whizzer and Chips (on Happy Families) and Pippin. He also worked on newspaper strips, drawing The Soapremes for The Daily Mail and taking over the art chores on The Perishers from Maurice Dodd (though Dodd continued to write the scripts). Mevin worked on The Perishers until Dodd's death in 2005.
