Ant Wars was a series by Gerry Finley-Day and artists Jose Luis Ferrer (parts 1, 2, 5, 9), Alfonso Azpiri (parts 4, 6-8, 10-14), Lozano (part 3) and Jesús Suso Peña Rego (part 15) which ran in 2000 AD progs 71 to 85 in 1978. Clearly inspired by classic American 'B' movies, it concerned a troop of ants from the Brazilian jungle mutated into giant, super-intelligent man-eating monsters by a new experimental insecticide. It was created quickly as a space-filler, but the creators nonetheless had fun with it; at one point, when the ants infiltrate a carnival in Rio by hiding under a float, they sneaked a topless woman (a definite no-no in comics at the time) into the parade to see if anyone would notice. The scene elicited not one comment from either Fleetway or the readers.
The series was later reprinted in the 1980s incarnation of Eagle (issues #217 to 231). A (sort of) sequel series of the same name, but set in the world of Judge Dredd, later appeared in Judge Dredd Megazine #231-233 in 2005.
